Screen Print Induction - Group Notes #2 (3/3)
22:42
Today we had an induction into screen printing in the print room, learning how to strip a screen and expose our own design onto a screen.
- Stripping the previous design of a screen, using screen stripper and a power hose
- Expose design onto screen using lightbox and design printed on a substrate (acetate or tracing paper)
- Screen print with binder and squeegee
I experimented with printing on all the samples I've ordered to see how different fabrics took the binder, and with several scales of leopard print.
As a group, we talked about how we are going to pattern match. My design should be easier to repeat as any gap in the spots can look like part of the pattern, whereas Harriette's stripes are going to be harder to match. We discussed trying to work out the repeats by next week, in Photoshop or Illustrator. I'm going to see which size print Fiona wants for the jacket so then I can resize the print and make more print samples before printing the final fabric.
